Shoe Fitting
It can be a challenge to get the right size of dance shoe. If this is the first time trying on a certain style, it is recommended to try different sizes to ensure that the fit is right. If dancing competitively, try going down half a size than what is recommended. If the foot is wide or have high arches, then a half size larger may better. There is a size chart in each product description either provided by the manufacturer and/or through experience fitting dancers.
To measure the length of the foot, stand on a piece of paper and mark the back of the heel and the end of the longest toe. Make sure that the mark is right below the end of the heel and at the end of the longest toe and measure the distance between the two. If you are uncertain of whether the foot is wide or narrow, then medium width would likely fit.
When trying on the dance shoes, they must fit very snug. There should be no loose leather at the toes or in the heel. Because they are made of leather, remember that they will stretch at least half a size with a little wear.
When trying them on, tie them up completely and wait 5 minutes. Try jumping on a carpet or mats to see how they feel and pointing to the front and side to see how they point and how the foot arches. If the toes curl or are painful, then they are too small.
If the heel does not fill out the back of the shoe, lace them up and pull up the heel at the back while flexing to get the right fit. Some styles need a little work to get the heel fitting properly.
If the shoes are going to be worn primarily for practice, then they do not have to be as snug but there should still not be any excess leather at the toes.
Some other considerations when finding the right size, if the dancer is a young beginner, go for comfort as their feet will grow quickly and practicing should be fun. We also all have one foot larger than the other so try the shoes on both feet before making the final decision.
Every style of ghillie fits differently. We have a 30 day return policy from the day they were shipped to you for a full refund (not including shipping fees), provided they show no signs of wear (marks on the soles or scuffs on the leather).
If you have any questions about sizing, please send us an email and we will be happy to help you out.
